Default Wood steering wheel care

We have the 'bamboo' steering wheel on our 450h. there seems to be no information in the owner's manual as to what if any care should be taken with this wheel. Has anyone used a preservative, or sealer on their wheel to prevent oil/perspiration absorption, or is it treated from the factory?

I thought I had dropped a thread earlier, but could not find it in the 'Search' function here. I tried emailing Lexus with no luck. Will check with service manager when I go in for 6 month check.

Thx

On some of my older Lexus cars that had the wood steering wheel, I used to use spray wax on the wheel. Helps keep it cleaner & protects it as well.
Go wax your wood (LOL)

Why would you want to wax it and make it slippery?

It doesnt get slippery when waxes, etc are used on it. It does keep it from getting all fingerprinted up etc.

I think I may use a thin coat of 'Tree Wax". Worked on Military barracks floors. Good stuff.

The wood is treated with urethane, just wipe and clean. For the leather bits, you can apply some leather protectant, but it most likely will be gone fairly quickly, along with any other product you put on it due to all the oils and dirt on your hands. Even if you use sanitizers the cleaning agents from them would most likely work through any protectant you have on your steering wheel. I personally just use APC for deeper clean on the wheel, and use interior detailer or ONR for in-between as maintenance.

I usually wipe down any leather/vinyl parts with a good cleaner, then go over again with one of several 'treatment' agents I have. The S.W. Fla sun is brutal, even for a garaged and tinted car.
