headlamp lens cleaning
Have a 2009 RX-350 AWD w/ 130,000 miles....tried several products [PlastiX, Off bug spray] from You Tube to clean the contamination from my front headlights....no yellowing just contamination on both lenses....don't want to keep trying commercial products....any suggestions...thanks

Best thing you can do is wet sand (start with 1,000 grit, then finish with 2,500 grit), re-clear coat the lights, then polish. If you just buff the yellowing off, it'll keep returning, as the protective layer has already worn away. If you're not feeling up to the whole clear coat process, I'd suggest doing all the prep work yourself (sanding), then taking it to a local body shop to see if they can run a couple of coats of clear over them for cheap. I'd assume they'd polish them after, but if not, the whole clear coat polishing process is super simple.

It will remove some just like polishing removes some clearcoat but it won't remove all of it, generally when your lights start to get hazy or yellow the protective UV coat is pretty much done for. Wetsanding will remove most if not all the UV coating. I would only polish them when they are getting noticeable and wetsand them when they are really bad. You need to add a 2 part clearcoat after you wetsand them or else they will just go back to fading/yellowing after a couple months. Spraymax 2K clear is a good clearcoat.

If it is on the outside you probably have to go to wetsanding if you are not getting anywhere with polishes. Wetsanding will make them look almost brand new if done right but they will start to fade again in a few months depending on how long they are out in the sun. To stop them from fading again you need to spray them with a 2 part/stage clearcoat like Spray Max 2K.
