One of the safer methods is to use a heat gun or hair dryer on "high" and slowly peel it off. You may have to use a citrus based cleaner such as Orange Glo or Stoner's Xenit to remove the adhesive residue afterwards. 3M makes a great adhesive/wax remover that will also easily remove any residual glue.
If you notice a 'shadow' where the decal was (due to lack of UV degradation ), you might have to polish the area to remove it and make it look uniform.(If the basecoat has been UV tone -altered around it, you may not be able to-this is somewhat rare though). Best of luck.

My GX is brand new and I wanted to take off the dealer decal right above the GX470 on the left side of the cargo door. Is this a pretty safe and idiot-proof operation? It's not THAT obtrusive now. I don't want to try it if there's a good chance I'll make things worse.
You can't hurt your car's paint with the heat from a hair dryer, it doesn't really get hot enough. I wouldn't leave it close up on HIGH indefinitely in one spot just for common sense's sake, but if you apply the heat to the decal for a minute or 2 and SLOWLY peel it as you keep heat on it, you'll be just fine. The sun can heat paint to above 200 degrees in the summer, and you'd have to work real hard to duplicate that with a hair dryer since they are engineered to trip the circuit and shut off the motor when the temperature gets anywhere near that( 140 degrees actually ), to protect your scalp. Cheers.
