Default New floormats! Scotchgard?

I've got some new OEM Lexus floormats (c/o www.l-tunedparts.com Steve Ganz) to replace my worn and dirty set after the winter. My current mats are original 98 set. I usually have put a fairly heavy coat of Scotchgard on new carpet floormats in past cars when I replaced them. Seemed to help keep dirt and stains off, at least for a while.

Before I sprayed the new set down with a wave of 3M product, thought I'd seek some additional advice here...

- Any cons to Scotchgarding the new mats?
- Are there other specialized products I should consider?

Thanks in advance.

Dave, Scotchguard works well, the only reason to change to something else was spurred on by the fact it's original formula was hazardous to the enviornment. But that changed in 2000 when 3M pulled the product off the shelves and reformulated it (very quickly I might add) so all is right with it now.

I have heard of Vectra spray protector and a couple others, but they came on scene pretty much to counter the enviornmental chemical /concerns of the Scotchguard at the time, and since that's no longer an issue, i'd just use the 3M product.

Cheers. Dan H

- Nope. This product is a great idea. It's readily available and cheap insurance against stains and spills
- Just look for Scotchgard Protector for Rugs, Carpets & Autos..But. you knew that. Apply at least 2 coats and allow it to dry overnight (at least) between coats. Vacuum regularly. Reapply annually or after steam cleaning/extraction cleaning.
