Rear window plastic/faux metal trim repair
This trim material, on the top and sides of the rear window, and running along the top of the front window of my '04 LS430, has oxidized. Where hidden from the sun, it has a chrome-like finish. Gentle rubbing w/ a thumbnail brings it up a little, but I don't want to burnish it. I wondered if anyone had identified anything to put the shine back, maybe something like the headlight lens repair stuff. There's a material for gel-coat fogging on boats that works great on oxidation w/out any polishing, I wondered if there's anything similar for this kind of trim. I searched the forums, didn't see anything, probably looking under wrong words. Can't be the first car w/ this issue. Anyone find anything that works on this?

I JUST fixed mine on my LS a week ago. I believe it actually REAL metal. I used some Zaino z5pro. and it came back to life like new. Use a little elbow grease though. Klasse AIO would probably work as well to. Don't use a metal polish, it will clean the trim, but it will mar it as well, any chemical paint safe polish that is non abrasive, with a microfiber towel and some elbow grease, should be perfect. But the zaino z5 worked perfectly, and you dont't have to worry about it getting on the paint.....AND it also great to have a sealant in your arsenal. Perfect results in my trim.

Please do remember that whatever you apply your polish, whether metal or paint, will also dictate the results. For soft metals such as chrome, and from personal experience on older Lexus, a foam applicator pad will yield the lowest probability of adding more scratches. That also depends on whether a contaminant gets into the pad or not so check whatever media you use very often
