Default Best way to wash windshields

so i heard the best way to wash windshields and windows is to use 2:1 water with vinegar and use newspaper to wipe dry?

has anyone had experience with this?
so the way is to just spray the solution on.. let it soak.. and wipe it dry with crumpled up newspaper? no need to rinse with water afterwards?

or is this not the best way?

i just got my car one full week ago.. and i already have some watermarks on all the windows that i can't take off with the invisible glass spray or polish..

alrite so its true about newspapers!
so after wiping dry with newspapers.. i don't have to rinse it out right? the newspaper's not gonna leave any ink or anything? lol

i guess windex will be much easier than water/vinegar mix.. at least i have some in a bottle already

let me go try it now!

Newspaper can be okay - unless it uses the new soy inks. They do sometimes leave streaks. Check in a small area first.

Be VERY careful with Windex. If it has ammonia in it and you hit tinted windows with it, you could affect the color/adhesion of the tint. Seen cars with purple windows before? We used to call that a "Windex tint job."

I would stick with vinegar/water. What were you using to wipe the windows? Microfiber towels work very well. Be sure they are clean and free of other things (don't use the same one for the winders that you just used to buff the wax off, in other words).

great! thank you so much big mack!
i just tried with windex before reading your post! lol good thing i don't have my windows tinted~ good thing i know now so if i ever do tint my windows in the future i'll know to use windex
can i keep on using windex on untinted windows? will it do any harm?

and i noticed that i still have to use my microfiber towels to wipe a bit after the newspapers.. the news papers did remove the water droplets that i couldn't remove with anything else! but then it did leave marks afterwards but i was able to remove them with my microfibers~

thank you so much guys!

No, it's fine on untinted windows. I use Stoner's Invisible Glass with newspapers, works pretty well.

that's what i have as well! invisible glass! and i thought it wasn't working anymore cause i was using it with microfiber towels
so i guess the key is to use newspaper

hmmmmm.. i wonder how that works..
cause after using the newspaper.. my hands are all dark from the ink.. yet the windshield is so clean.. then where did the ink on the windshield go? lol

Just for future reference, microfibers have different styles. Some have longer naps and some are short. Short nap is ideal for windows. I've never had an issue with a short nap MF towel. You can find them at Target in the household cleaning supplies. The long naps leave streaking and lint behind

ive never used newspaper for the windshield before, but with so many people chiming in about how great it actually works, it's definitely worth a shot. i get slight streaking days after a wash, which i used to always wipe away with some windex (windshield isnt tinted yet).

so i spoke to my friend who works at a lexus collision center
he mentioned that.. although newspaper really cleans your windshield
it will leave your windshield more prone to dirt in the long run?
especially on the rear windshield
he said when it fogs up.. you will see all the dirt marks and stuff because of all the oil from the ink.. or something like that

so my question is for those of you who has had experience with newspaper for many years already.. have you ran into any issues noticing that your windows are becoming dirty quicker?

and for the record
i've tried all of the following.. and none has come out better than newspaper

invisible glass + brown paper towel
windex + bounty
invisible glass + bounty
invisible glass + micro fiber towel

i'm gonna try invisible glass + newspaper later on as brociouz does
probably same result as windex + newspaper i've tried before?

but yes.. any information in regards to the long term use of newspaper on your windshields will be great!

Never had any issues. Sometimes I'll take a clean microfiber towel and wipe my windshield down after cleaning it to remove any streaks.

Define what type of microfiber towel you're using. Plush ones suck for oil/streak removal like I said above. Try dedicated towels like I described before letting go of MF towels completely

Spray wax works great and +1 for newspapper. Or a lint free cloth.
