2 months babying my new car, I was washing it today, then I noticed a BIG, (to me at least) chip about 1/2 the size of an eraser at the end of a pencil. The chip doesn't look like a regular chip where there is tiny white spot or holes, but it looks like a piece of the paint just peeled off.

I am wondering if anyone else has experience similar paint chip or flake! What is the best way of covering it up? Is this something you can request the dealer to take care of?

 

1. Use LEXUS Touch up, (it matches the paint better than something from autozone)
2. Instead of using the brush that comes with it...
Take a Q-tip, rip off the cotton at the end of it, and use that instead to be able to get the touch up into the scratch perfectly. I even sharpen the tip of the Qtip so that you have even more control on where the paint is going.

 

Better yet, a wooden toothpick. Dip in Lexus touch up. wipe tip so there is no 'blob" on the end. stick the tip in the middle of the hole (no this is not the beginning of a penthouse letter) and let the paint flow off the toothpick on its own. Once the paint fills the opening, remove the toothpick, let it dry and reapply over and over until it is just a bit higher than the original paint. You can then either wet sand, or Zaino Z5 the touch up to make it even with the original.

Good luck. I got my first chip after 1 month - this paint is pretty easy to do that to.

 

thanks guys for the nice tip, now I already Z5 over the chip yesterday after Z7 wash, should I clean the area with dawn first before applying the touch up so that the touch up will bond with the surface better?

Also, I found a thread about getting both touch up and base layer for repairing chips, is that for better bonding? would you recommend it?

lastly, what is wet sanding?
