Default Question about clearcoat?

So I am getting my car fully detailed this morning and my boy who is real good is doing it.
Well he calls me and says the clearcoat on the side skirts is peeling a little bit. It isn't that noticable but he found it so he put something on it to stop it from further peeling. I had my car done in like March so could it be that the clearcoat is peeling?????

Lexis11, we could tell you most definitively if you had some close up pics of it, but an outside guess is that it *might* be clearcoat peeling from improper prep or the something the shop did within the flash time windows for the base/clear, but that's kind of rare.

You can stop it briefly, but if it's from really thin paint (if they wetsanded it too thin perhaps- I have seen that) it might keep happening as the UV rays attack it. I have seen it happen different ways, from chalking to delaminating completely with the film intact, to something in between those 2 scenarios, and I would be able to better guess based on that.

Again, hard to say without an up-close and personal look-see.

Hey guitar thanks for the rapid replly, once I get it back today I will take some close up shots and post them. God I knew when I had it done it wasn't the best of jobs but boy this is not good if it is peeling.

Well, it's not usually a difficult fix. They would just need to feather the clearcoat edge back to the point it's got a solid bond, scuff the whole piece with 800 grit, and reshoot a couple coats of clear.

I would be taking it back to where you had it painted and see what their attitude is.

I think I have a clearcoat problem on my trunk as well. I'll try to shoot some pics and maybe perhaps you can tell me if it is a clearcoat problem.

Lexis11, let me know how it goes. I'm hoping there's an inexpensive way to get this corrected.
