Who makes Lexus glass?
$260 installed aftermarket
$1090 installed OEM Lexus
Does anyone know who makes the glass for Lexus? Can a windshield replacement company have the rain sensor work properly? Lexus wants ~$1500 to replace it.
Thanks!
But to answer your question, aftermarket windshields do not have the rain sensors.

As for aftermarket glass for Lexus w/the rain sensor, there are no companies that offer it on the 2IS. If you are getting quoted for aftermarket 2IS glass w/sensor, it's possible that it's inferior glass that's imported from Taiwan, China or Mexico. Unfortunately the factory glass is not cheap, but it's built to spec for Lexus. You do get what you pay for. I would file an insurance claim if your deductible is not high. Glass replacement is a comprehensive loss which equates to a 0 fault non chargeable loss.

I got another quote today from the company that does the work for my local Lexus dealer...about $90 cheaper. I'll go with them.

Your quotes sound about right, with my OEM quote being in the $1000 range, while my 'aftermarket' replacement was $300 including labor.
My car also has the rain sensor, and you don't have to replace it. The rain sensor is attached to the inside of your glass, just behind the rear view mirror. If I remember, I believe it just slides into a bracket thats adhered to the inner windshield. The glass tech should have prior experience with cars using rain senors, and will be able to detach it, replace the front windshield with an appropriate match, then reattach the sensor.
After having my glass replaced some months ago in 08, its been fine and identical to OEM, minus the Lexus branding, while the rain sensor functions no differently than it did the first day I got the car. You will want to make sure the glass tech seals your windshield properly, though, so that no leaks or wind noise come through...I think those two are the bigger concerns.
It's not spiderwebbing/cracking, just a small dime size little chip.
I have an 08 is250 9000 miles
questions:
1. lexus warranty doesn't cover this?
2. I don't have auto wipers, so no sensor, right? Therefore, I can get aftermarket?
3. since it's not spreading, should I just wait? It's just a small divet.

Sensor or no sensor, you can get aftermarket...but from what I've learned, its better to consider repairing it, first, before opting for a replacement. As to waiting, sometimes it doesn't spread...other times an overnight temperature drop sends a crack across the windshield. I'd have a more knowledgeable tech look at it, to determine what needs to be done.
