your turbos are located next to the muffler, which means you pipe the compressed air all the way back to the engine?

Yes. My turbos are rear mounted just like what the vette, gto, trans am and camaro guys do. There are no mufflers in this system. The turbos serve as mufflers. The V band clamps are connected directly to the exhaust tips. The car looks completely stock from the rear. You are correct, the air is compressed and sent all the way to the front mounted intercooler.I have a build thread on the complete setup. You are more than welcome to go check that out to see how I laid everything out.
Just for information, would this have worked on a awd?
I'm not sure if this will work on an AWD as the piping was made to fit a RWD is250/350. I'm assuming it won't as the undercarriage components on the AWD are probably different. We don't have many AWD IS' here in SoCal or else I would be happy to confirm that.
