Lexus LC 500 Will Turn Skeptics into Believers
USA Today drove Lexus’ latest grand tourer and found the incredible, gorgeous LC 500 to be a ‘triumph.’
After production for the Lexus LFA came to a halt, the Japanese automaker was scrambling to come out with another two-door coupe with the same striking look, the same unmistakable presence. And while a lot of enthusiasts doubted Lexus’ ability to design something that was just as stunning, the LC 500 arrived and it’s turning skeptics into believers.
USA Today got to spend some time behind the wheel of a LC 500 and came away stunned. “The 2018 Lexus LC 500 coupe is a triumph, a gorgeous car that elevates its entire brand,” says the outlet. The vehicle “establishes Toyota’s designers as a group to watch.”
One of the best aspects of the LC 500 is the way it looks. And USA Today believes it could be one of the best-looking cars on the road today. “The LC 500 coupe isn’t just the best-looking Lexus ever, it’s a design Porsche or Ferrari would be proud to claim,” says the outlet. “Flawlessly detailed and beautifully proportioned, the LC’s smooth shape appears to have been poured from molten metal rather than built with wrenches and robots.”
USA Today compared the LC 500 against some of its competitors, including the Jaguar F-Type R AWD, Mercedes-Benz SL 550, and Porsche 911 Carrera, and found the Lexus to be at the top of the chain when it comes to value. “The LC’s a bargain compared to most of that group, offering more features for the money than all but the Stingray, which, at $55,495, remains a shockingly good value,” says the outlet.
While the LC 500 has the looks of a high-end sports car, its weight and wacky accelerator pedal makes the vehicle lethargic to get to 60 miles per hour. “Response to the accelerator pedal is not linear, initially responding slowly, then coming on in a rush that led me to swing back and forth between slow starts and inadvertent wheel spin at traffic lights,” says USA Today.
But once inside the vehicle, the LC 500’s downfalls are soon forgotten. “The LC’s interior is comfortable and accommodating, if you ignore the rear seats, which are cramped,” says USA Today. “The instrument displays are large and clear, but the control for many audio and navigation commands is poor.”
With its astounding looks, spritely powertrain, and high-tech interior, the LC 500 is a rare vehicle that is not only enjoyable to drive and look at, but is also one that raises the bar for the automaker. “Overall, the 2018 Lexus LC 500 coupe is a car that raises the bar for the whole brand,” says USA Today. “It will delight its owners for years to come.”
