Quintessential Luxury, Fully Refreshed: 2022 Lexus ES
Updated ES introduces first-ever ES 300h F Sport, brings over driver-centric cockpit from LC, LS family with upgraded safety suite.
Not everyone can jump straight into a Lexus LC or LS from the get-go. Perhaps they’re upgrading from Toyota’s premium offerings, or coming over from another brand entirely. For them, the ES is there to bring them into the fold, and has been since its debut in 1989.
Back in 2018, the ES entered its seventh generation of entry-level luxury, riding upon the all-new Toyota Global Architecture-K platform. For the 2022 model year, the Lexus receives a full refreshment inside and out in the ever-long pursuit of perfection.
The ES Gets Driver-Centric
Upon first sliding into the ES, the driver will notice an experience more focused upon them. Called “Seat in Control” by Lexus, the experience first arrived with the LC, then processed through the LS before landing within the ES. In this instance, the standard 8.0-inch and optional 12.3-inch touchscreens have been moved forward 4.3 inches. Also: the screens are actually touchable, allowing the driver to control their favorite infotainment system via the screen or the remote touch interface.
A More Sporty Hybrid
The ES gains a new family member for 2022: the 300h F Sport. Joining the ES 250 AWD and ES 350 F Sport models, the hybrid adds sportiness to its green cred, including 19-inch black wheels, rear spoiler, and all of the looks the F Sport trim offers.
That said, the highest-performing ES F Sport remains the ES 350. The model receives an all-new Dynamic Handling Package with adaptive variable suspension. Working together, the two technologies deliver 650 adjustment levels to the suspension for the best drive ever offered.
Leaving Its Name Upon the Road
We also can’t forget the Lexus Driving Signature, a program meant to give each model family their own way of rolling upon the road. For the 2022 ES, its signature is taken from and built upon the IS lineup, such as a new rear suspension member for enhanced rigidity, stability and comfort. And when it comes to bringing it all to stop, the driver benefits from a bigger pedal. On the other end, the master cylinder and booster both received optimization for a better stopping experience overall.
All the Colors
You can have your 2022 ES in two new shades: Iridium and Cloudburst Gray. Returning shades include Matador Red Mica, Ultra White and Ultrasonic Blue 2.0. Departing colors are Silver Lining, Atomic Silver and Nebula Gray, replaced by the aforementioned newcomers. Interior options include Circuit Red NuLuxe for the ES F Sport, Acorn semi-aniline leather for the ES Luxury and Ultra Luxury, and Palomino NuLuxe for the base ES.
MSRP for the 2022 ES lineup will be announced closer to arrival in showrooms. Expected arrival is scheduled for this fall.
