BREAKING NEWS: Lexus Hints at Upcoming LS-based Wagon!
Lexus has filed a curiously-titled ‘Lexus LS500w’ trademark application for automobiles. Here’s what we know so far…
An upcoming issue of Japanese magazine MAG-X reveals that Lexus is considering building a wagon based on the upcoming LS500 model, due to be available in late 2017. However, the wagon would likely follow a year or two later.
The “w” suffix has not been used by Lexus in the past, not even with the only other wagon model Lexus has brought to production: the IS300 SportCross, which was offered from 2000-2003.
Very little is known about this possible new Lexus wagon, but MAG-X suggests that the new model is meant to provide an upmarket rear-wheel drive luxury alternative to the Lexus RX line without utilizing a harsher-riding truck-based platform.
The article suggests that the move is based on strong consumer interest in the Porsche Panamera shooting brake concept, called the Panamera Sport Turismo (pictured), first introduced in 2012 and coming to U.S. showrooms in 2017.
The ‘w’ suffix has not been used by Lexus in the past, not even with its only other wagon model, the IS300 SportCross.
The date on the trademark application was February 2017, so there probably will be a few months before we get any substantial new details. MAG-X has been on our radar for Lexus scoops since their January issue created a stir with the rumored news that the Lexus GS line may be cancelled after the current generation.
Looking at the similar lines of the two cars, it’s not hard to imagine an awesome Lexus wagon option that will get families and hardcore wagon-lovers excited!
