Lexus aims to improve both traffic flow and safety with groundbreaking new feature.

Lexus has long been known for rolling out innovative technology features long before any other automaker. And the luxury brand’s latest, Lexus Lane Valet, is the most groundbreaking automotive technology feature to date. In fact, with this incredible invention, we have literally just entered the space age, where robots (in this case Lexus cars) can communicate with one another and literally control the driving of the other. Plus, in the latest evolution of autonomous driving, Lexus Lane Valet promises to improve traffic flow, highway safety, and fuel economy.

The premise behind Lexus’ new lane assist is quite simple. Using radar, lane monitoring technology, and a wireless data protocol, the system temporarily communicates with slower-moving vehicles traveling in the left lane. With the simple push of a button on the dash, the radar and camera systems scan the road ahead. Then, Lexus Lane Valet communicates with the slow-moving vehicle and initiates a lane change.

Lexus Lane Valet first activates the slow moving vehicle’s turn signal, and once the adjacent lane is clear, moves it to that lane. This allows the Lexus driver to continue along at a reasonable and enjoyable speed. It’s a win-win for everyone – less traffic buildup, road rage, and accidents will occur as a result.

“Lane Valet was conceived by top Lexus engineers who understand the importance of safe and steady driving conditions,” says Brian Bolain, general manager of Lexus’ product and consumer marketing. “An appropriate vehicle speed without excessive braking offers optimal fuel efficiency, better traffic flow and decreased driver frustration. We’re just trying to give everyone the best possible driving experience.”

Lexus Lane Valet will be available on every model the luxury automaker builds beginning on April 1 — which, if you haven’t figured out yet, is otherwise known as April Fool’s Day! And this elaborate April Fool’s Joke from Lexus is one of the best ones yet.
