CRAZY CRIMES: Lowlife Stops at Nothing to Nab a Lexus
We understand the appeal of a Lexus, but this is NOT the way to get one.
For most of us, buying a Lexus was a pretty straightforward transaction. We worked hard, saved up the money, signed on the dotted line, and drove away while grinning from ear to ear. But that wasn’t exactly the path to Lexus ownership for one particular Florida woman. Rather than obtaining a 2006 Lexus RX the legal way, this Orlando resident decided to defraud a poor, unsuspecting 96-year-old instead.
According to WESH 2 News, Samara McCastler called the victim, pretending to be a bank employee. She informed the senior citizen that there was a problem with her debit card and instructed her to place it in the mailbox. Making matters worse, the culprit also obtained the victim’s PIN number and the last four digits of her Social Security number.
The typical lowlife criminal shopping spree ensued. In this case, that included trips to multiple local Wal-Mart stores and $30,000 in charges over two days. Those charges included some Visa gift cards and money orders, the latter of which was used to make a down payment on the Lexus. Thankfully, the victim’s caretaker quickly figured out what was going on and had the card deactivated before more damage was done.
As you would imagine, it didn’t take long for the local police to track down McCastler. Investigators simply followed the digital trail and promptly arrested her. Also unsurprisingly, the thief has a long history of fraud, theft, and forgery spanning the last 10 years. Hopefully, this latest cold-hearted crime will put her away for a while.
Because while we understand the appeal of Lexus ownership, we only appreciate those who get there legally. And people who exploit the elderly to get one certainly don’t deserve to be called Lexus owners.
