Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition: Rare Blast from the Past
As special as the ‘regular’ Lexus LFA is, the LFA Nürburgring Edition is even more so!
The Lexus LFA, in and of itself, is not what one might call “mass produced.” With only 500 of these very special rides in existence, only a small percentage of very lucky people will ever get to experience the peak of Lexus performance. But of course, the automaker also built an even more exclusive, high-revving, V-10 powered screamer. And that is the LFA Nürburgring Edition.
Named, obviously, after the famed German race track, the LFA Nürburgring Edition was a special edition in more than just name. Sure, it celebrated the car’s entry into the Nürburgring 24 Hours. But it also offered even more performance than the “base” LFA. Additional downforce is provided by a tall, fixed rear spoiler, larger front splitter, and side fins. All of those parts are fashioned from carbon fiber, too, to make them lighter.
Lexus engineers also worked their magic on the suspension. Combined with stickier tires, the LFA Nürburgring Edition was easily capable of exceeding the stock car’s 1.00+ g on the skidpad. Lexus also added an additional 10 ponies to the LFA’s 4.8-liter V10, giving it 562 hp. Even shifts are quicker, with the revised 6-speed doing the deed in a mere 0.15 seconds.
