Lexus is Considering a High-Performance CT
The Lexus CT 200h hasn’t been flying off lots. Perhaps speed, or lack thereof, is the issue.
The car is slow. It takes more than 10 seconds for the CT 200h to reach 60 miles per hour. That acceleration is almost as depressing as the appreciation rate of a standard interest-bearing savings account.
Lexus International Executive Vice President Mark Templin admitted the car’s speed shortcoming to Motoring, saying the luxury automaker “missed a segment of the market for people who want fast cars. A lot of people liked the looks and liked the way it drove” but came away wanting a faster car.
Because of this, Lexus is considering a more powerful CT variant. “If we had a second powertrain in that car, I think we would have done a lot more volume [….] in the future? Maybe we need both.”
While nothing is confirmed, if more horsepower equals more sales, hedge your bets on a CT with cojones coming to a Lexus dealer near you.
