Club Lexus Reacts to Jeremy Clarkson Being Suspended for Being Jeremy Clarkson
The biggest automotive news this week had little to do with cars and more to do with egomaniacs. Well, one egomaniac in particular, Jeremy Clarkson.
Not that I care if Clarkson is an egomaniac. I don’t have to deal with him, I just get to watch the hour of edited Jeremy Clarkson that entertains the heck out of me once a week. Or at least I did until the BBC decided to pull the plug on the final three episodes of the year – and perhaps the last three episodes ever, at least with our current group of surly presenters.

But isn’t that why we watch the show? To see Clarkson being Clarkson? And maybe because we hope to see a glimpse of The Stig’s wife?
So what if Clarkson instigates fights along the way? I don’t have to fight him. And neither do you, presumably. But apparently the BBC brass do, and so they have to hold the only things over him they can: the airing of the last three shows and contract negotiations.
While the BBC may think they’re punishing Clarkson, the public knows who’s really get stiffed: Us! We demand entertainment! If some schmuck producer takes a bit of abuse along the way to give us our rightful entertainment, so be it.
Just let Jeremy Clarkson be the hilarious egomaniac that he is. Sheesh.
Obviously, I’m upset about it. With football season over, I have no reason to look forward to Sunday whatsoever. But though the Top Gear news has been mostly sad this week, at least I can be happy about how many great comments it gave us in the Club Lexus forums! Here’s some of the best…
4TehNguyen: producer probably drives an RCF
chikoo: This was the only way BBC could get people to talk about Top Gear, and increase show ratings.
Hoovey2411: Suspension brought to you by Fifth Gear
tea: must have been the backlash from the bashing of the RCF
BrettJacks: I don’t think Clarkson will have to worry about his paycheck. The dude’s loaded, and he’ll find other work. Should he be disciplined for punching his producer? Absolutely. Should he be taken off the air? Not if BBC cares about viewership.
There’s plenty more good stuff over in the forum; the conversation even ventures into the question of who should replace Clarkson, if it comes to that. Names like Hugh Grant, Chris Harris, and Jay Leno have all been thrown out, but the debate seems to have veered into whether or not Mr. Bean can actually speak.
