Mystery 2026 Toyota GR Corolla First Look: Are We Looking at Morizo 2.0?

This camouflaged 2026 Toyota GR Corolla development vehicle features huge aero and the return of some track-ready tires.
Here’s something you don’t see every day. Toyota has officially announced the development of an unnamed 2026 Toyota GR Corolla special edition model. We can expect it to debut later this year, in the fall.
But the fascinating part is that, rather than keep it a shrouded secret, the automaker has decided to reveal a heavily camouflaged prototype and then invited dozens of journalists and influencers to walk around and inspect every single nook and cranny.
What a treat!
So, what are we looking at?

The GR Corolla was originally supposed to debut for the 2023 model year with two grades. The base model Core, and the Circuit with a lighter roof, bigger spoiler, and more standard features. But, as the legend goes, Akio Toyoda himself — grandson of the company founder and a successful racecar driver under the name Morizo — said that the team could do better.
And better they did, with a 1 of 250 limited edition GR Corolla called the Morizo Edition. More torque, a rear-seat delete to accommodate massive structural bracing, revised manual transmission gearing, a bulging hood with heat-extracting vents, and stickier Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 track tires.
Walking around this mystery GR Corolla, I couldn’t help but see the Morizo influences, and here’s everything cool that stood out to me…
The new fenders look like something out of GT3 or GT4 racing.

There are two dramatic vents, one above the wheel, and another behind the wheel. Very aggressive.
I think the hood is made of CARBON FIBER!

In addition to the dual heat extraction vents from the Morizo, Circuit, and Premum Plus grades, there’s an extra heat extraction vent in this new hood. And when you look close, you can see what appears to be exposed carbon fiber weave, making me think the whole hood is going to be carbon like the various RC F Fuji and Track editions.
The huge new wing is adjustable.
Whatever this GR Corolla special edition ends up being called, it’s going to have the largest spoiler in GR Corolla history. Again, it’s very GT-racing inspired. And it’s going to be manually adjustable with simple hand tools.
The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are back!

When I first drove the GR Corolla on track, I was a little underwhelmed. Then I drove the Morizo with the Michelin Cup 2 tires, and all was well in the world. These tires don’t last long, and you should never drive them in the cold or heavy rain. But they’re also magical, and they haven’t been offered on the GR Corolla since the Morizo left after one model year.
Is there a rear seat?

We weren’t able to go inside this development prototype, but looking through the tinted windows revealed a back seat area that seemed to be, well, missing the seats just like in the Morizo. Is the rear-seat delete and massive structural reinforcement returning for 2026, or is the marketing team simply playing with our emotions?
What do we actually know?

Now, in terms of hard facts, there are few. Those should be made public, again, in fall of 2025. But Toyota’s tiny press release did state that this “born on the track” GR Corolla will see a “bump in torque and unique tuning.”
Everything else is just pure speculation while the engineers continue finishing up the project ahead of “Akio Toyoda’s final test drive.” Whatever it is, it looks like the GR Corolla is about to have a new halo model and we can’t wait to learn more.
