2012 Lexus IS F Is the Modern Japanese Muscle You Need

You might not be able to buy a new Lexus IS F any more, but there are some nice options on the used car market.

There was a time in the not too distant past when the thought of a roaring, V8 powered Japanese muscle car was simply incomprehensible. Then, in a flash, Lexus started producing high horsepower luxury cars that sounded more like classic American pony cars. And they still do. But if your styling preference remains with the cleaner, previous generations, we’ve got just the car for you – this 2012 Lexus IS F.

The very first vehicle to wear an F badge, the Lexus IS F was an obvious choice to begin Lexus’ new performance legacy. With a naturally aspirated, direct injected 5.0 liter V8 producing 416 horsepower, it’s no slouch, either. Rocketing to 60 mph took a mere 4.7 seconds, with the quarter mile eclipsing in 13.1 seconds.

Sadly, Lexus quit making the compact rocket after 2014. Which means that if you want one, you’ll have to resort to the used car market. This fine 2012 Lexus IS F we stumbled across on eBay showcases one of our favorite colors to grace these cars: Ultrasonic Blue Mica. But it also appears to have been very well taken care of. And there’s only 52,897 miles on the odometer.

The leather/suede interior shows little sign of wear or abuse as well. And this IS F is even equipped with the 13-speaker Mark Levinson audio package. If you’re a fan of compact V8 performance (and who isn’t?) it doesn’t get much better. We’d suggest scooping one up sooner rather than later, however. Because one day, good old V8 Japanese muscle cars will be a thing of the past.
