Default Advice needed: 2002 RX300 RIMS/TIRES

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for tire/rim advice. I have a 2002 RX300 and I put 20" rims on my vehicle. About 8 months after getting the rims, I had to rebuild my transmission. My mechanic told me that I should not have anything larger than 17's. I've invested in the 20's, I like the way they look and feel on the road. I have also invested $1500 on the tranny, obviously I do not want to create unnecessary issues or expenses. I do know that this year and model have tranny issues without the rims/tires.. Can anyone tell me if they have had tranny issues with 20's? My mechanic is an older guy and he has stock on his RX so I'm wondering i need to invest in smaller rims/tires or am I ok?

Lots of people use aftermarket wheels/tires that are larger than stock without issues. Your transmission failing may or may not have had anything to do with your wheels & tires.
