Yeah spec says that max width is 8.5, but I am sure you VIP guys broke the factory recommended spec anyways...
Thats a good stretch.. depends on who you ask, but for me I would run a 225/35 on a 9, unless you need to get as much stretch as possible to reach your fitment goals.
I am actually on 225/35, doesn't really stretch that much...i still rub but since the tires are damaged, i was thinking of just switching to 215/35. It is cheaper too. LOL
I was riding on 215/35/19 falken 452's on a 9" rim, they were fine on the freeway but the stretch is so much that the tires bubbled up in the first month.
depends on your tyre brand. What brand do you have now? maybe you could just get a narrower 225/35. most people run 225/35 on a 9, the japanese run a lot of stretch so it is quite common reading through VIP mags to see 215/35 on 9s up front, but i would say it is pushing it. As you say, load ratings and such are getting to the edge. You would want to be careful of tyre pressures.
But as i say what brand are you on now, cause tyres such as Nexen stretch a lot for their widths.
225/35/19 Falken ST115 on 19x9.5 was hardcore. I think I put a coin between the flange and the tire. The same size FK452 wouldn't be that bad... but of course if you look at it funny you will get a sidewall bulge or three. lol
