Default Dayton Daytona ZR vs Yokohama AVS ES100

Okay, here's the scoop. I bought Supra TT wheels mid-August from a buddy in LA. They came with Dayton Daytona ZR tires front and back. The fronts were brand new with under 1,500 miles of wear on them, and the rears were just about done. I did manage to put about 5,000 miles on the worn rears to the point where two layers of steel belts were showing  (The guy had some camber issues with his Supra that caused uneven tire wear). So mid-October I bought new tires for the rears to replace the retired Daytonas: Yokohama AVS ES100 by recommendation.

Fast-forward just four months and it's now late February. While polishing the tires yesterday, I noticed the tread on the ES100s are just about done and pretty soon I'll have to replace them again! Now last year put a little over 25,000, probably 28,000, miles on my car. Half of those miles were on the stock rims, another good portion of those miles were on the old Daytona ZRs, and the rest lies on the Yokos. The bald *** Daytona rears held up a lot better than the fresh new Yokos considering how bald they were. And the fronts still have at least another year left in them. The Yokos took just four months before I had to start worrying about replacing them!

I ultimately come to the conclusion that my Yokohama tires lasted a lot shorter than the Daytona ZRs. The front tires, which are still the original Daytona ZRs, still have over 50% tread left! I know the rear wheels take all the wear from torque off the line, but I'm still dissatisfied with the lifespan of the Yokos. I expected they'd be higher quality and longer lasting than the Dayton tires. Is there something I'm missing or are the Dayton tires just better than the Yokohamas?

lex400sc,

You have stagged wheels, you cannot rotate, and a rear wheel drive car that you are pedal heavy with. The Dayton's come with a 300 A A treadwear rating. The ES100s are for handling and traction but suffer from softer compound hence a slight drop to 280 A A. Considering they are on the rear...that is about normal. Next time consider the tires I have, the AVS dB at 320 A A A rating. They should last longer but still suffer the issue from being on the drive wheels.
