Tires that work well in the snow
Hi guys,
I have a 2005 AWD and it has Continental 235 55/18's on there. I don't have it with me so I'm not sure of the exact model of tire. In any case, they look fairly worn so I started looking at some options. Its mostly a commuter for my wife, but we do get snow regularly and will be using this car to go to Vermont (skiing/snowboarding ) somewhat regularly.
All the tires that pop up in that size seem fairly tame, more fore quiet efficient road handling. I do want that of course, but am look for opinions on what would do well in snow covered surfaces as well. I'm not looking to get a set of dedicated snow tires. And for all I know, most options will do fine but figured its always worth asking before I take the plunge.
Thanks
Oz

If you have the Continental PureContact with EcoPlus Technology then you probably already have the best rated all-season tire for use in snow according to the surveys at Tire Rack. Would recommend you go there, look up your vehicle and size tire, and have a look at the surveys and reviews for the tires there as a basis for a decision.

If you want "snow" tires it is not a bad choice. However, that was not what the OP was asking since they did not want a dedicated set of snow tires. Other snow tires of choice are those from Nokian.

Thanks for the response guys. First off, how did I miss that there was a dedicated tire forum, doh !
And its true, I'm not looking for dedicated snow tires. Even though we do drive in snow somewhat regularly, I don't think its enough for me to do a switch-over twice a year.
I've been reading reviews for sure, I just wanted to get opinions from people with first hand experience. I've had the Michelin's on other vehicles and they performed ok. I'll check out the Continental's online too.
Thanks Again

Nokian WR SUV..........snow tyres for sure but can be used all year around without a problem.
Not sure if they are available in the States, but if you buy Nokians you will have probably the best winter tyres available.
