For the GS300 (98+), is a 45 offset going to work?

I just ordered some 19" wheels & Nitto 555 tires and the offset is a 45. Is this offset of a 45 OK?

I'm not too knowledgeaqble about these things.

The shop told me that it would be a good fit.

The wheels that I ordered are 19x8.5 Zenetti Mystik in Silver w/ a 2 inch polished lip.

I know that these are not Racing Hart or Lowenhart wheels but I think that they look really nice and have both a sporty yet interesting luxury type look. My car is lowered 1.5 inches w/ H&R Springs and also have Bilstein Shocks so the wheel gap should be greatly reduced especially since I am going with 245/35/19 Nitto 55 tires.

I'm sorry but I just couldn't justify spending $3-$4,000 on wheels/tires. Especially with the fact that I live in CT and pot holes do exist and I really be pissed off if I had $$$$ expensive wheels and them bent / destroyed them.

If I bend these I can replace them fairly cheaply. In the spring/summer I do drive the car a fair amount and I just didn't want to get crazy on $$ for wheels.

I figure I can use some of the $$ i saved to order the SRT HFI/ECU and RMM grill.

By the way, I have already ordered the SRT HFI/ECU for the GS 300. I'm the first guy on the list for shipement.
Just wanted to let the guys know you can order it now.
My discounted price is $650 shipped.

Jacob - I would have thought a +45 offset would move the wheel FURTHER away from the axle, and therefore bigger brakes would fit more easily. Perhaps I've totally misunderstood offset?

I have +44 on my RH C5 and I had to shave the calipers to fit. Mean Gean has the Zenetti wheels and he could not fit on the Supra TT big brakes. I'd think Zenetti wheels only come with one offset since they are one piece and not custom made.

I don't quite understand it myself, but wheels of around +35 or +36 offset is required for big brakes. Otherwise, you need spacers.

Offset is measured from the wheel center line to the mounting surface. Bigger offsets move the wheel more outward. So for bigger brakes, you'll need more offset to accommodate them.

Bitkahuna, you're right. Bigger offsets move the wheel more inward.

Look it this way: if you increase the offset, the mounting surface will be closer to the outer lip of the wheel, and farther apart from the wheel center, thus the wheel will sit more inward.

This means that for a big brake caliper, IN GENERAL a LOWER positive offset is adviceable, even though the offset (by definition) has NOTHING TO DO WITH CALIPER CLEARANCE!

To illustrate this point: imagine two wheels with a +40 offset, one of them with a big outer lip, and the other one with no lip at all. The wheel with the big lip will allow lower caliper clearance , because the spokes end up closer to the wheel center (and thus to the brake caliper). Bottom line: there's more on a wheels design than the offset when it comes to caliper clearance.

supra TT 18" +32 front +38 rear
gs3/4, aristo +42 +45

the higher the +no., the more the spokes goes in.

supra has that larger break, so volk recommends only +32 for the front. the supra TT offset would be fine for the gs, it just gives you more room behind the spokes for break upgrades in the future.

Thanks guys. I think the offset on my wheels are 44, so I guess bigger brakes are probably out of the question. Then again, what constitutes 'bigger'? Is it just the rotor size, or does more calipers matter? I wouldn't have thought so since the calipers just space around the rotor, right?

At some point I'd like to get the TRD brake set, but now I'm wondering if they'll fit.

Here's the setup I have going...

Front - 20" x 8.5" with a +37 offset

Both HRE and AP Racing confirmed that the rim will clear my 6 Piston AP Racing setup (once I get my lazy *** up to go get it installed) and that's one friggin' large caliper too. No shaving anything...(but shaving a little off your caliper isn't horrible if you have to do it...)

What Miguel (gs4power) said is absolutely true. Wheel design is more important than offset...HRE designs their wheels with big brake upgrades in mind (just look at the roster of performance hot rodders they supply rims to)...as does Rays/Volk...

I've seen some Rays setup with the Alcon 12 Piston system...:eek:

I would have love the 12 Piston setup but not only is it not realistic for street use and I'd have to design and manufacture my own mounting braces and import the componets from England...maybe next year...

I have a question I just purchase some XXR 512 & the offset is +32 if I install big brake kit will that clear?

probably not, though it has less to do with the offset and more the design of the wheel itself... some +32's will work, some will not... will also depend on which bbk we are talking about...
