good tire size for stock 16" GS wheels??
Anyone have a good suggestion for an all-season size for my stock wheels that came on my GS300?? The stock tires (215/60/16 I think) are like BALLOONS compared to the rubber on my 20's. What's the widest I can fit on the 16's with a lower aspect ratio?? (45 sidewall for example)
This will be my setup for winter time.
Thanks,
Eric

Hey there!
I believe the widest you can put on your (Lexus) 16'' rims is 245/50/16 tire, which should have the same diameter as stock 225/55/16 for GS4XX. I am not sure about 215/60/16 (I think this stock wheel + tire would be slightly larger in diameter than the upgrade).
You can mess around with this info on the Tirerack's website. All you do is search tires by size and then click the 'Specs' link on the results. All the info you need is right there.
Good luck.

The GS300 stock tire size on the 16" wheels was 215/60R16 up until the 2002 model year except for the 2002 GS300 SportDesign which had 225/55R16. For 2003 they went to the 225/55R16 size on all GS300. You can see this on the overview of the 2003 Lexus GS300 on Edmund.com.
Someone on CL told me that you don't want to deviate by more than 3% from the stock diameter because it will put strain or stress on the suspension. As Vlad_Stein suggested, you can use the "specs" on Tirerack.com to determine the difference in tire sizes or I prefer to use this Tire Size Calculator.
If you can go as wide as 245, then 245/50R16 is almost the same diameter as the stock tire size of 215/60R16 but 235/55R16 is a closer match.
