18" and ride quality
Hi guys,
I plan to get Moda, either 17"s or 18"s. My wife who is the principle drive gave me the go ahead, strange how that works. Even though I sold my bimmer and got her a lex, while I jolst around in a Jeep Cherokee. Had to vent. Wanted to know, if I upgrade to 18"s how is the ride with the stock suspension setup. Is there a significant ride difference between the 17"s and 18's.
Cheers-

I just got a set of 18inch Moda R6 about 2 months ago. I went from the 16 inch stock rims. I really can't feel/hear any ride difference at all. I think the tires play a big role in ride quality as well. I went with the Yokohama AVS and I'm very pleased with the rims/tires.

16-18 should result in a significantly noisier and harsher ride.
If you're going to put 18s or any aftermarket rims on though, you really should consider lowering the car at least an inch which the L-Tuned setup does. 18s (particularly staggered) and L-Tuned makes the car totally different (better) looking and handling.

I have the stock suspension. I know the L-Tuned springs would make the car "look" better but I'm not willing to sacrifice ride quality for cosmetic looks. Allthough there is a little wheel gap, I dont think it looks that bad with the stock setup. I love the smooth ride and there is almost no difference with the bigger 18 inch wheels.

when i first had my set of 18x9+10s, i did not lowered for ~ 1 month as i did not have time....imho, it looked ok, not bad actually..again, MHO...my stock was 17s, and when the GS was on stock suspension, my "behind" did not really feel a hugh difference in ride quality. actually the 18s rode quieter and smoother than the POS re030

If you can't feel a difference in ride between the factory 16s and aftermarket 18s, then you have no feeling in your ***.

There is a big difference. I have 18s stock suspension. You will feel more bumps to me. Not harsh, but definitely more than 16's. Lexus has done an Outstanding job with a supple ride, even with larger wheels.
damn straight!

Hoh,
now, firmer, not harsh....and even considering coilovers(hks, kg/mm, tein CS, or bilsteins) and or a nice set of 19" 3-pc forged work or fabulous profound wheels from japan...

Looks good bad-gs, but what size tires do you have? If you have 18s (not staggered) all around, they look like 235s? If so 245s and the 1" lowering would look quite a bit better.

And bad-gs400, please, get the LTuned suspension; your car looks like its ready to traverse that mountain range behind you.
J/K dude. The LTuned was my first ever suspension mod as well, and let me tell you, it was pure joy. ~1" all the way around, still very comfy, and looks a ton better, without the slammed look. And that was with my OEM 17s.
Just offering some helpful experience.
