Default 98 LS400 and GS400 17's

I'm new to this forum. Recently purchased 98 LS400. I liked the look of the GS400 17's and bought a chrome set on ebay. Then saw a thread from MongooseGa that these wheels will not fit the LS400 with a brake upgrade. i don't know exactly what brake upgrade he did. My concern is will these wheels fit a stock LS400. planning on installing 225/55/17 Turanza LSV on them. I assumed the offset was the same for both cars and never even thought about the brake clearance until i read the thread. i knew there was a similar 17 on the IS300 but that wheel had a more positive offset than the ones offered on the GS. i have not purchased the tires yet nor have i tried to install the wheels on the car because i'm waiting for a set of Gorilla System lock nuts to arrive. can someone shed some light on this?

98 gs400? nop. coz' your ls400 already has big brakes (4 pots) to begin with, and it will not fit under the stock gs400 wheels

thank you for your reply. with the big brakes(4pots), i'm assuming its not the height differential since i'm going from 16 to 17's. it must be the width of the calipers and the wheel not having enought offset. i've read in other threads about fitting wheel spacers. and it seems the H&R spacers 25mm would be the easiest install. without removing and installing the 17" wheel, i don't know if it requires that much space. has any other reader tried this application? are putting spacers on a solution or will it cause more problems with putting unneeded stress on other components(bearings/alignment/ride/ handling). hate to want to give up on these wheels. nice set but if i have to, guess i'll list them on ebay and try again.

correct, it's the width. the caliper will hit the spokes. you can use spacers, and i think 15mm to 20mm would be enough, but personally i am very much against it if possible.
