Tire Rack is your friend. They have ratings for all types of tires.

EDIT: I searched the stock size winter tires for you: click

Cheapest are the Dunlop Graspic DS-2's at $122

I've been researching this very question over the past few weeks. I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a tire. What's important to you? If it's quiet and comfort, it looks like the Bridgestone Turanza is the way to go. If it's performance you're looking for, and you don't mind paying a bit more, then the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is a great tire. If you're looking for something in the middle that balances performance, comfort and quiet, I've been told that you can't go wrong with the Pirelli Pzero Nero M/S or the Continental Extreme Contact (the latter of which is extremely affordable, although I've heard that the tire develops flat spots very easily). I currently have Toyo Proxes 4 on my 17s, and although the tread life is incredible, the ride is a bit harsh. The bottom line is that you should talk to Brandon at Tire Rack. Tell him what you're looking for and he'll be able to make a recommendation.

Go for Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S. I have almost 1,000 miles on mine and I will be a repeat buyer from now on. Do not buy Sumitomo HTR+. They were my last pair and were horrible!

I have a set of (4) 17" Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 245/45-17 that I'm looking to sell. I took them off stock 17's after I bought my 19's last spring, so they'll fit right on yours. They are all-seasons, in excellent shape, about half tread left, one of the best all-seasons you can buy, great performing tire. Let me know if you're interested, I'll take some pics, etc.

These tires are 8mm larger in overall diameter than stock, which is 4mm larger sidewall (not much). They fit just fine and fill out the wheel well just a wee bit better. These tires have about 20K miles on them, hard to judge exactly because I swapped them off during the winter for pure winter tires on separate wheels. Tread is about half worn. Main tread is 5mm, while center ribs are more worn at 2-3 mm (this particular tire has higher center rib wear due to use of a soft rubber compound in the center). Tread was measured with a tread gauge. Tread depth of this tire if NEW is 8mm (10/32"). These tires are $222. EACH, NEW on Tire Rack. Check out specs and review on this tire at tirerack.com (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 245/45-17).

My price is $200 for all four tires ($50. each), plus $15 to 20 per tire UPS Ground (shipping has to be figured for your location).

If you are really looking to get around in the snow, you are better off with strict winter tires. These tires are awesome in the dry and rain, however. When any all-season tire begins to wear, it loses ability to bite well in snow.

Let me know within a day or two whether you want them, since I'll be posting them full up on the CL site for general consumption.

Default Avon 245/45/17 M550 A/S ..... $118/tire

Talk to Brandon on tirerack and he said that these were pretty damn good rating and bang for your buck $118 per tire. I just put them on compare to Dunlop Sport Runflats they are so much quieter and comfort level is like riding on stock 16"s. But if I had the money I would probably went with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S but then again they are $100 plus for each tires.

Also what I require is comfort and quietness. Not much of performance and so forth. I drive fast enough when I'm in the mood. But not all the time.

Let us know what you got. I'm from NYC also so I know exactly where you are coming from.
