reverse staggered setup!!!!!!
I took my 01 LS430 into the dealer for the 60k service. When I drove it home, I noticed the steering felt a little heavy. I pulled in my garage, walked around the front of the car, and noticed the front wheels sticking out kinda far from the fender.
The tech had rotated my tires, and put my 275/30-20's on the front and my 245/35-20's on the rear! Funny, there was no rubbing anywhere in the front. The offset on the 275's is 42 on a 9.5" wheel. Car definitely looked retarded with the skinnies on the rear and the fatties on the front.
Needless to say I called the service advisor back and told her I was a little disappointed.

That tech is a total idiot to do that, I hope he didn't do the rest of your 60k service.

wow,,,, sometimes when the dealer works on your car you think your getting a professional mechanic to work on your car,,,, this just proves that sometimes an idiot might get their hands on it

Im still wondering how did he not notice when he was putting them on. And how did you not notice when you walked up to your car? Was the wheel sticking out of the wheel well in the front?

I did take pictures, they're on my camera at home (I'm at my office now.) I didn't notice because of two reasons:
1. I assumed that they would not rotate the tires, so I wasn't LOOKING for that.
2. When I picked it up, it was already pulled into the drive, and I approached the car from the side, not from the front or rear, plus the lips on the rears are not that much bigger than the fronts, so not real noticeable if you're not consciously looking for it.

Guys, I've heard of this happening many times at dealerships. Techs rotate tires so often it's like clock work so they forget about staggard setups and don't pay attention. For me, I make sure they follow 3 very important procedures.
1: DO NOT WASH THE CAR
2: DO NOT TRY TO ROTATE THE TIRES
3: MAKE SURE TO PUT PAPER DOWN ON THE FLOOR AND SEATS.
You will be suprised what bad things could happen if none of these steps are followed. I make sure the service writer puts these remarks on the paper work and in my history.
~ Washing your car at a dealership can result in additonal scratches and your aftermarket wheels turning to crap due to the lack of care and knowledge the porter has.
~ If you have a staggard setup, make sure the service writer makes a note in your history. I'm pretty sure it won't happen again the next time around.
~ Usually dealerships put paper down on the floor however they don't put it on the seats. If you have ever watched a tech working on your car, they are usually pretty grimy with oil and grease on their clothes. These guys will also sit on your leather seats to drive the car around or to do work on the inside. I've seen my car personally and a few others come back with oil smuddges on the leather seats after a service... It's not pretty...

I've heard of this happening before... the tech must have been asleep at the wheel - or he has a trainee/apprentice guy perform the work for him while he was on break. Sometimes this happens on cars that are OE equipped with staggered wheel widths, but don't appear that way - the old 91-98 MR2s were like this.
Pretty strange that it happened on a car with aftermarket wheels, though!!
I'm not suprised the 9.5 +42 fit - it's only 1mm off from my 20x9.5 front fitment...
Probably would look cool with a wider tire on the rear!
