First Snow
Just recieved our first snow in St.Louis and my 1998 Ls 400 drives like a bar of soap. Do winter tires make that great of a difference? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Mounted my Dunlop M3 Winter Sports 225/55 16s on my stock Chromies Yesterday.
4 inches of Snow here in Chicago today. I flew by everything with no problem excellent traction...couldn't set of my VSC when I tried. Taking turns, Braking accelerating up a hill...just amazing.
I event drove on the highway and they felt like my Pilot Sport A/S.
Printed out a copy of the Tire Rack Price Page and brought it to SEARS. They matched the price plus minus 10% of the difference! Use another 10% off SEARS coupon and you get an Excellent price!

Winter rubber should make a bigtime difference on your RWD LS. What is the exact tire size your LS needs....I'll be able to suggest several excellent choices for you to consider.

what's the tire size? 225/60/16?
If so, Continental ContiExtremeContact is one of the best. I have these right now and although haven't tried them in the snow yet, dry and wet performance is top notch. TireRack snow rating for these tires is 8 out of 10. Pretty high. Another good choice is Dunlop Winter Sport M3, snow rating 9.3 with excellent dry and wet rating. check out tirerack, they are a good source of info. good luck...

Yep you got it, 225/60/16
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out. I'm also considering putting some weight in the trunk, either a nice big sub box, or my ex-girlfriend. Tough choice.

Lol marc You might want to consider the Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice & the brand new winter tire from Michelin called the X-Ice.........The commercials for that tire are hilarious & there suppose to be an excellent winter tire especially on black ice & freezing rain. & not quite as expensive as the Dunlop's.
