Default 275/30 or 265/30...2 part question...

CL,

My rear wheels are 19x10; I was looking at getting 265/30/19's and was told I could go either way.

When calling around for prices, most shops recommend 235/35/19 for the front (19x8) and 275/30/19 for the rear (19x10)

Question 1: Does it matter?

Question 2 : Why is there a different tire size for the rear than the front. Why not 35 for the front and 35 for the rear?

Thanks in advance.

hard to say whether it matters or not. first of all, the 30 and 35 you seeing, that's aspect ratio, it's NOT direct measurement. 245/35, that means the sidewall is 35% of the width, 245. if you get 275 in the back, you will need to get 30 (30% of 275) so you have the same sidewall front and back. if you get 275/35 in the back, the sidewall on the back would be 1/2" too big.

with that in mind, with your 8 front 10 rear setup, personally i would get 245/35 and 275/30. that would gve you a bit more sideall and it's within spec setup for the car.

235/35 and 265/30 would work, but you have less sidewall, you risk bending your wheels more.

245 is a bit too wide for the 8, but i think it's ok, and it's beter than doing 265 on the 10, which is too stretched imho

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Now I understand. I did think it was a direct measurement. I was looking at cars with the 35/30 set up and thinking "they LOOK the same to me" . Now I know why.

Thanks Again. See you @ EOS!

Darius

Thanks RominL. I just ordered a set of Hankook Ventus in 235/35/19 | 275/30/19.

Appreciate the help. See you @ EOS.
