Why do ls400 caliper need notched to fit?

The grinding of the caliper bracket (my solution which allows for a replacement caliper to bolt right on) or the caliper is the easy part of this upgrade. The pia was trimming the dust shield. Just takes some time to get it trimmed where it doesn't rub.

I didn't have to do any grinding to fit the caliper on my 1998
