Question Will decreasing wheel size 1" lower my car 1"

I've asked my friends and I really just need a sanity check. I feel like I'm losing my mind or something so simple. I have 19" rims and plan on using 18" rims here soon.

Technically, it all depends on the size of the tire correct? Just because the rim is smaller doesnt necessarily mean the car will lower more because of it.

I hope I just answered my own question, and someones going to owe me some money.

You did. We're talking about the wheel/tire combo here for overall OD measurement.

EX:

19" rear 255/35/19 - has an OD of 26"
18" rear 255/40/19 - has an OD of 26"

The same

However, if you went with a 255/35/18 you would reduce the OD to 25" and lower the vehicle by ½". You would also increase the wheel gap, and lose some load carrying capacity.

I'm sure you've seen cars with little wheels and little tires that some young folks seem to like, IMHO, looks silly and certainly not safe.

As was said, typically the difference in diameter is usually made up by the difference in tire sidewall, so overall the diameter is still the same.

talking purely wheel size, and assuming the exact same sidewall, it would only lower you 1/2 an inch. But yes, everything depends on the tire size

So to be safe & not overload the tires, verify max load capacity of tires on your vehicle exceed potential maximum weight of your vehicle + occupants + luggage @ air psi you will put in the tires. Max weight capacity rating is molded on the tire! Failure to do this is what led to the Ford Explorer fatal rollovers!
