Upper Control Arms/Total Worth of Car
Hey All,
I have a 1999 GS400. The engine seems to be in solid shape, the front suspension is definitely going, though. I recently had the ball joint go bad on me while driving a few months back, and got both of the lowers replaced. Now, it's time for the uppers to be replaced. How much should I pay for the parts, max? I've been getting a variety of prices from different places. Also, I don't plan on keeping the car for much longer than two years and don't want to pour a ridiculous amount of money in it. At this point in time, how much money would this car be worth? The speedometer/odometer is bad and it has stopped at 238k. Probably has around 280k on it now. The body of the car is fine and it has an upgraded sound system. Thanks!

I went with moog upper control arms two years ago and they held up fine but you should make sure you grease the joints because when I removed them again to replace the bushings my passenger side ball joint was loose and dry while the driver side was still tight and had plenty of grease.

I got Dormans for mine, which are actually from the 1st gen GS, but specified for my sport design (they were a little beefier), for $80 a piece of rock auto. I don't do my own work usually, but changing the uppers is extremely easy, on 3 bolts holding it in. For $160 and an hour or two, you could change them yourself versus the $600 I paid to have just one side replaced with a Napa part that cost $350
