Hi,
I am having my mechanic replace my inner and outer tie rod ends (today hopefully). He pointed out a strap or clamp on the boot that he said he would have to cut to get the tie rod off. He also said I had to get a replacement. What exactly is it called as I cannot find them? I assume this is because I don't know the exact name or part number. I got the ends, but no boot or clamp comes with it.
Also, Is there any SC specific knowledge necessary for replacing the tie rod ends? My mechanic is a great old school general mechanic, but not particularly familiar with the SC. I always look for Sc specific differences when planning a job to be done by him just in case there is an Sc specific, out of the ordinary element to the job.

He must not be that great a mechanic if he cant simply loosen the screw on that clamp in order to take it off

Now we know there is a screw on it. It must have been turned around back as I didn't see it either.
