Just buy quality parts. There is no reason you should be looking to save a couple dollars here and there by purchasing crap parts. I'm not saying go to a dealer, I'm just saying buy the OEM parts (or proven aftermarket UPGRADES) elsewhere and have a certified technician, wheather it be at a dealership or not (toyota dealerships can be less pricey), do it for you if you cannot do it yourself.

I am not a mechanic or considered a handy guy. I just changed my front brakes this past weekend it was soooooo easy didnt take more than 40min and less than $60. Got my pads from autozone and they came with new shims for $50 plus brake cleaner and brake grease both were like $1-$2. I will never let the dealer do my brakes again. They did it before and i got some speaking noise form my brakes whenever i took off from a cold morning/afternoon/night. I did it myself and I hear nothing now!

any brake job over 400 is a ripoff IMO... (unless its fixing the abs system, that requires a little more)
but then again, I do my own brakes
My old car, i had brake master cylinder and new brake lines ran and total was just shy of 400... it was a big job that i couldnt do my self because i didnt have all the tools. If your just doing rotors, brake pads, then huge rip off

So I ended up taking my car back to Northpark Lexus to have a technician drive it and experience it for themselves. The tech quickly told me I had a "warped" rotor. Went back and the service advisor still quoted me the $680 for new rotors and and pads. I declined and took my car to Just Brakes and got it taken care of for under $40. Problem solved.

They probably machined his rotors. Not always ideal because 9/10 after you machine them they will soon return to being warped in a few short months sometimes sooner depending on ur rotors thickness to begin with. Alot of people on this thread saying dont buy anything but OEM brake pad/rotors.. not the case, aftermarket has tons to offer in terms of performance, and reliability compared to oem. What they mean to say is dont go to advanced auto and buy the store brand because its whats on sale. That my friend is where people go wrong and end up getting screwed.
bottom line you get what you pay for.

Oh yeah! I forgot to mention what they did. Yes, they machined my rotor and that took care of the problem. Don't understand why the dealership didn't offer me that service. I liked they fact that at the brake shop I was able to see the work getting done. It's been a week since the work was done and so far so good. We'll see how the work holds up with time.

front rotor usually can be resurfaced one time before changing whereas rear rotors can be resurfaced twice before changing. If you go to dealers, they always say to replace both front and back rotors. Dealer quoted me $1300 labor and parts to replace front and back brakes/rotors last time.
