Default Do I need to replace brake pads and rotors?

My dealer said that I should replace the front brakes soon. Do you guys agree with the assessment? Also do I need to replace the rotors? These brakes have not been serviced before. Thanks!

Looks like you have about the thickness of the pad backing left in pad material. You are fine for now, but looking into a replacement set now would be in your best interest.

Thanks, should I just get new pads and use the same rotors?

TO tell if the rotors need to be replaced you will need to measure their thickness.

Thanks, but I don't have a micrometer. Did you guys have to replace your rotors the first you did your front brakes?

No, I did not. Did you get the brake dust TSIB done at any point? Because if so, they may have refinished your rotors, which would make them thinner. Good chance you still have adequate thickness left even then, though. Anyways, a mechanic will measure your rotors for you if you want (especially if he's already doing something that requires removing the wheels). Or just invest in a micrometer, they're not that expensive. Min thickness is 27 mm.

The pads have not been replaced before. I think 09+ models may have different pad design and are not eligible for the brake dust TSIB. Maybe someone else can confirm. Thanks

I would go ahead and just buy a cheap micrometer. You can pick one up online for less than $20. Worth having around.

A quick, free check would be to feel the edge of the rotor for a lip. If it is easily noticeable, perhaps it is time for a new set; but seeing your model year, I really doubt it.

You can definitely feel the lip, not sure if they visible from the pictures. These brakes have ~50k on them

^Well, next step would be having a shop measure them for you. Most brake places will "check" them for free...but that just might be a visual inspection versus actual measurements.
