Default noob brakes/brake pad question

is250 AWD 07

symptoms:
front two rims always more dusty/dirty than back two
calipers get dirty fast too
front driver side brake squeak/whine when brakes applied at low speeds or reversing

what does this mean? i had my brakes checked back in november and they said my pads were still intact and didnt need to be replaced for a while.

i guess my question is were they wrong? or do the OEM pads cause a lot of dust? what could be causing the high pitched whine?

i remember asking them about the whine then too, because it started back then and they said it was beacuse my calipers were painted. that doesnt make sense though because that was done back in march and i never heard that noise before. it was also done with high temp caliper paint.

any insight would be great so i dont kill myself on i40 or something. thanks

Your front wheels getting dirty faster is because most of your braking force is applied to the front wheels. Hence large calipers and brake pads up front causing more dust.

Not sure about the whine, but if your pads are good then you shouldn't have any issues.

The break dust can be reduced by getting the oem low dust pads. As far as the noise i think that a new shim kit or relubrication might help.

The stock OEM front pads produce insane amounts of dust.

There was a TSIB from Lexus to fix this by giving you a free set of low-dust replacement pads, but you're long out of warranty on an 07 so no luck there.

You can still replace them on your own dime, they're fairly cheap-

http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2007/1885.html

$55.40

be sure to select the low-dust set

Also be sure to log in with an account you create using your club lexus screen name to see the discounted pricing.

Did the shop check the inner pad for wear too? The inner pads on my fronts wore out faster than the outer pads. I had near no pad left on the drivers side front after I purchased my '06 350 back in April '11 and it squealed BAD during any slow braking.

When I say "inner" brake pad, it is the pad on the inner part of the caliper or backside. There's two pads, one on the outside of the rotor and one on the inside. In my case, I had excessive wear on the inner/inside two pads versus the outside. A quick visual on just one pad might not tell you the life on the other.

What YOU can do is use the scissor jack in the trunk, loosen the lug nuts, jack up the car, remove the nuts, remove the wheel, and check the pad life for yourself. You can look through the top part of the caliper to see the remaining pad material.
