Default Rear Brakes Seized

2006 IS350

Both rear brakes....
Bottom bolt that lets the caliper swivel to remove the pads is totally locked up on both calipers.

Weird that BOTH are seized. Would have thought that one possibly, but what's the chance of both?

It also would only apply pressure to the outside of the caliper. So the pads on the outside were wearing and the inside was not because the caliper was seized.

So, two new rear Calipers, pads, a complete brake system flush later. I will be back in business. My dealer in Winston Salem was nice enough to get really close to Sewells Club Lexus price on all the parts.

Happened to my 08 IS350 at the track @ 90K kms. Luckily had ECP or would have been a $700 fix.

A new Caliper includes the pin and mounting bracket.

Mine is at Lexus Dealer now. They are trying to determine whether or not this falls under this service bulletin. My VIN falls into this bulletin. I'm not sure if this is a RECALL or just a TSB, does anyone know?

Looks like the previous owner of my '06 2IS had this done in 2009. Looks like I'm set. Yay!

The previous owner of mine did as well, so they say. Although, the same issue has come back on mine. This is why the dealer is now working with Lexus to see if they will cover the repair again. This time the pin is seized on BOTH and requires new calipers. The first fix was to re grease OR replace if needed. Obviously they only re greased mine the first go around.

We will see, they were waiting for Lexus Corp to call them back.

So what exactly was the first sign that your rear calipers were seized up?

I took it in for a Brake Check and brake fluid flush. Tech noticed that the rears were wearing more on the outside pad compared to the inside.. He pulled the top bolt to release the caliper and swing it down to check them, they didn't swing down. It was seized at the swing pin where there is a rubber bushing that would not hold grease. Which come to find out Lexus sent out a national service bulletin regarding this.

Good news!! Lexus stepped up and took care of the Calipers and installation. They took care of it per the recall on the failing greased guide pins. I paid for the pads and a complete brake flush. A very fair compromise.

Flow Lexus in Winston Salem, NC has a great team. Fair, Honest and very helpful. I bought my wife's RX350 from them and they have serviced it from day 1. Flow BMW/MINI has also been even better, Bought my MINI from them and they too have serviced it from day 1.
