DIY Parking Brake Adjustment
Hello,
I've searched and haven't found a DIY thread on adjusting the parking brake. I had my car serviced at the dealer, they gave me a new loaner and noticed how firm the parking brake pressure was. Of course it locks the car in place pretty well, but compared to mines, it a night and day difference. My parking brake isn't too bad , but it does not have the parking lock I would desire. I had asked the service advisor how difficult it was to adjust the parking brake. He made it sound pretty simple, jack up the rear and adjust screw on the rear brakes? Wanted some opinions on those who have been able to adjust the parking brake or direct me to a thread on how to do this.

The parking brake uses a drum design in the rear hat and doesn't utilize the rear caliper for "parking". To adjust it, the rear wheel must be removed and there is a circular cap on the rotor hat face. Remove that and you'll see the adjuster through the hole.

No, not covered. Just spoke to a service rep at the stealership. This is considered a wear and tear item. You could have driven for miles while the brake was engaged, and they do not cover it. They charge anywhere from $75-$150 "depending on what type of equipment you have."
It is normally serviced every three years, as in adjusted, and rarely, 99% of the time, it only requires adjustment, if it is weak.

So I got this adjusted by a local mechanic and its tighter, but I still have some slack when pushing the pedal down.. I also noticed I get a squeek now when I get out of my car while using the ebrake. It's because I move the car a little as I get out. Anyone know how to fix the squeal? Sounds like something just needs to be lubed or something. Or I need to adjust my pedal so that it adjusts tighter?
