so i called up a lexus specializing auto shop today to see how much it costs to change my break pads. he said on 250's if you change your break pads you also need to change out the rotors because its probably warped because of the original material it is made out of, and you can't resurface it. i dont feel the car break differently from when i first got it. i just figured it was time to change the break pads, and now i hear this. is this true? he quoted me at $520 to do this. my car has 40,000 miles on.
oh, and yes i did do a search and i found this on the same topic. but it doesnt give me the answer:

Are your rotors still smooth to the touch? Does your steering wheel shake when braking? If they are still smooth with no grooves in them, then they should be fine. If your steering wheel shakes when braking, you could have rotors that are wearing uneven (some call it warping). You do not need to replace rotors every time you change pads. They are probably scamming you for some extra $$$. And, you can turn (resurface) these rotors. I have done it so that sounds like another sales pitch to spend more $$$. If all you need is pads, buy some yourself for around $50-$65 for the set and they are extremely easy to swap out. Start to finish....maybe 20-30 mins.

I'm changing both rotors and pads out in the summer. Partially, because I want cross-drilled rotors and ceramic pads. It's better to change both out at the same time so if a rotor has any imperfections, it doesn't ruin the new pads. It's not necessary if your rotors are still within specs and has no surface imperfections. But $520 doesn't sound bad. The lowest price I found for the parts I need on a 350 were $600.

I'm not talking about Endless, and what about it? If you're talking about the price, isn't he getting a good deal if it's OEM? Sewell parts right now is charging $190 for a set of front rotors and $270 for rear rotors. The pads are $65 for set of front and another $65 for rear sets. That's not including the CL discount and labor. So the OP would be getting a deal if it's OEM.
