Default For those w/ brake caliper stickers

I'm going to paint my new Supra TT calipers tomorrow and also apply the 'L' stickers.

For those of you who have put the stickers on, I recall some painted over them with a clear paint? What kind of clear paint did you use? Was it heat resistant? Any issue with yellowing over time?

For those that did not paint over the stickers - any problems with the stickers coming off?

Thanks in advance,
D

Default Clear Paint

Dave,

depending on the color of the stickers the clear paint may start to "yellow". I have no clear coat on mine and they are fine.

Dave,

I tried to spray some high temp clear coat on my newly painted calipers after I put the Lexus sticker on it. For some reason, it started to strip my black caliber paint. I am using some high temp paint called VHT

I was kinda on a time crunch getting my calibers off while my car was on the lift. I had about 2-3 hours to sand my calibers down and paint them. I thought the paint was dry when putting on the clear coat, I guess it wasn't.

I can always go back and spray down the calipers again with clear coat, but I kinda of like the matte look vs shiny look. Don't worry about the caliber stickers, after your caliber's heat up, those stickers just melt right into place.

Thanks Johnny and Drew, exactly what I needed to know.

My caliper paint is G2 Silver and the stickers are black (if I use them). I think I'll skip the clearcoat.

Going to try to get them painted today (at least the fronts) while they're off the car so they can dry.

Lightbulb Compromise

Dave - I was afraid of a clearcoat yellowing as well so I just used Dupli-Color's Gloss Black engine enamel #DE-1613 ( available at your local Wally World ). I did mine about a year ago & the gloss is still there as well as the sticker itself. Nice subtle mod!

Default Nice thread

I was going to start this exact thread this week.

I painted my TT brakes with some high temp cast iron color and I think I am going to slap the decals on WITHOUT clear.

Late.

AG - How did they come out (pics!)? I looked at that exact paint color this weekend, but it was only rated at 500 degrees (vs 1500 for some other paints)?

Just trying to decide what to re-spray my brakes with.

Angry

Quick pic of my crappy paint job in G2 Silver (front Supra TT caliper). Pardon the condition of the car/wheels, it rained here this weekend and I haven't had a chance to clean up yet.

The more I think about it, the more I just want to put the 'L' circles on all the brakes (no lettering).

Dave how do you like the stopping performance of the Supra kit?
Thanks for starting this thread about the clear coat since I was going to do that myself once my stickers arrived..

They are very impressive for the time I've driven on them (not much). I've either had a car full of people, or take-home dinner, or car parts in the trunk - stuff I can't toss around. I need to go out with the empty car and just me to really test them. I especially want to make sure the ABS still engages with these brakes.

Pedal feel is noticably firmer. I had the SS brake lines before the upgrade, so it's not from that - it's the brakes.

One item I noticed, but only barely, is that I hear a slight (searching for word, not finding it) humming/bumping sound from the rear when I stop. It's not a regular sound - it slows along with the rotation of the wheel. It's not really noticable and may even be the cross drill/slots going over the pad. Just going to keep my eye/ear on it.
