Default Suspension Help

Sorry, I know this belongs in the suspension section, but people don't seem to answer questions in there as much. I just need a quick answer. I need new struts for my car (1993 GS300). Steve Ganz can get me TRD struts for it, but they were designed for the TRD springs (1.2 inch drop). My springs are a 1.75 inch drop. He says the struts might not work well with my springs because the drop is too much. I need a second or third opinion before I make a purchase. Do you guys agree with him? Will they (Espilir springs 1.75 inch drop, TRD struts) be ok together or am I better off looking for another option? I don't need anyone to get into the science of things, just a "yes they will fine together" OR "save your money." TIA. Moderators, can you leave this here a few days before moving it? Thanks.

Minh

I think it's not gonna be that bad since the TRD strut is a really good strut. I think you should go for it.

It will WORK but whether or not it's "OK" for you isn't something we can answer precisely. You'll just have 1/2" less travel in the shock and the shock will be operating in a "compressed" state at all times so it may not last as long as "it should"...

I don't have personal experience with those shocks (or your springs for that matter) so I'm just answering based in knowledge of other setups that I've experienced...

Thanks Manaray, I guess I'll have to save up for the Teins. For anyone who is interested in suspension products for the first gen GS300. At this time, I'm pretty sure these are our ONLY options:

For stock springs, KYB struts.

TRD has a spring/strut setup imported from Japan. 1.2 inch drop and the struts are 4-way adjustable. the price is $395 for the struts, the springs are $290. They can be ordered from Steve Ganz @ Carson Toyota gonzo4u@earthlink.net

For coil-overs you can get the Tein HA or CS through Steve as well. $930/$1310 for the HA/CS respectively.

Moderators, you can move this to the suspension section now. Thanks.

I wouldn't mismatch springs/shocks with 1/2" diff.
