whaaaa?? es300 calipers on my sc300!??!
so i go into the shop to replace my rotors, and this is what they tell me. The rotors won't fit because the calipers are too small. and that the whole brake system is off of a ES300... WHAA?!?!?... how could this happen!!

Id think (without seeing pics) that someone ordered up some SC400 rotors for your car...I don't think that calipers off of an ES would mount up to the SC hubs(if memory serves me the caliper mounting bolt holes are different location on SC vs ES)...or possibly that they ordered rotors for a 99-00 sc300(same as earlier SC400 IIRC).
Hope that helps

where did you take your car?
it seems a bit awkward that right off the bat they were able to determine they were an ES setup ...
i would get a second opinion before i jumped to the conclusion that you have ES brakes ...

went to a 2nd shop today to confirm, and they also said that it's the bwole brake system that's wrong, they said i have everything from the hub, to the calipers from an es300... i don't know how this could've happened. i'll take the car to lexus to tripple check on moday but so far it's an es300 system, i don't know how this would've happened i even checked carfax for all the records and nothing that extensive was ever done on this car.

Get some pictures with the wheel off and find the part number on the brake caliper. I HIGHLY doubt you have es300 braking parts on your car.
On a personal note when you go to a shop and have no idea about parts or your car, they are gonna hussle you big time. (like being told you have es300 braking equipment)

There is no way that any ES300 braking parts are on your car, different suspension designs between the two(macphereson strut on ES vs. double wishbone style on SC), not to mention the hub on an ES300 will be vastly different than SC equipment due to the front-wheel-drive setup on the ES.
Sounds to me you need to check into some different mechanics(you're 2 for 2 on the shady-shop-o-meter in my opinion); Not to mention if these "mechanics" truely cannot tell the difference between a Front-drive hub and the front hub on a rear wheel drive car, I would be VERY hesitant to have them performing ANY work on my car, let alone something as important as brake system work.
*Any Lexus guru's feel free to correct me if anything I have said is incorrect since I haven't looked at an ES300 and an SC300 side by side to compare suspension designs.
