You should have just re-used the shims from the old pads, you may notice pad "chatter" by not having the shims installed, but I don't think having the grease on the back side of the pad will have any adverse effects in and of itself. Eventually, over time, most of it will wash away...

thanks domnf15 for the reply. when i took off the old pads there was no shim kit. i'm guessing the mechanic who did the last brake job threw them out. my new pads didn't come with one either. it's okay though, i just ordered new shim kits off sewell so i'm gonna install them just for peace of mind.

Default Figured out my brake problem

A long while back I replaced my (wife's car) front pads and rotors (put off the rear at that time). Not long after I began getting a shuttering in the front brakes that could have been described as the anti-lock activating. As it's turning out I think the rear reached a point where they were not contributing to the stopping effort so the car was relying on the front only. The shuttering diminished once the rear pads were installed and I'm giving it a few weeks to see if it goes away altogether. If not I'm going to replace the front rotors again, thinking I may have may have damaged them. Obviously the rear pads are designed to stop wearing just before damaging the rotors, a little material was still left.

No such thing as bad rotors. Unless they're drilled rotors.
Ask Kurtz or lobuxracer. Rotor "warp" can be cured by bedding in your brakes correctly.
Drilled rotors can and do often crack after heavy track use
No sense in getting a rotor cut/turned unless you really warped the hell out of them which rarely rarely rarely happens. You'd most likely lay your car into a barrier from brake failure due to high overheating or from doing what's in the video. LOL

Im in the process of changing my front brake pads, right after putting on the new pads..I got stuck with the problem of one seized caliper pin..bottom pin is loose, but top one is seized. I've tried alot of things to try to move it but still doesn't want to move. I've tried C clamps, hammering it lil....any suggestions? need your help ASAP!

Default Thanks!!!

I am going to be taking care of this job tomorrow on my car! This is the best tutorial I've seen yet!!!

Changing the Rotors should be common sense after removing the calipers and pads right?

I'd say the 350 is a tiny bit easier since you don't have to remove the caliper to access the pads, but it's still a very simple, quick job that can save you hundreds of dollars over getting this done at the dealerrship. I hope you all find this useful!
