SC300/400 Rear Shocks 92-96 vs. 97-2000
I was wondering if anyone can tell me the actual difference in the OEM rear shock between the 92-96 (part no. 48530-29205) vs. the 97-2000 (part no. 48530-29555)? Lexus shows all the other components of the strut such as support assembly, spring etc... as being the same from 1992-2000. The cost of the 92-96 is also substantually higher, Lexus retail is $255.19 vs. the 97-2000 which is $156.88. The aftermarker also uses one shock for all models. There must be some build difference perhaps mono-tube vs. twin tube?
Any help would be great.

its probably a transition to a newer part number such as what they do with oil filters and some other things. the shocks are all the same. i installed coilovers on my 93 and sold the shocks to a guy with a 95 or 96. i have done stock shock replacement before on a 97 and it was the same thing as my stock one.
go with what is cheaper. its the same as the price of SCx00 control arms vs. mk4 supra control arms. same part but toyota one is about half the price.

Yea just get the 97-00 since they are way cheaper. Not sure where you are getting your prices, but msrp for the 97-00 should be $88.63/each unless you were pricing both rear shocks. Only difference that I can think of is that the 97-00 may be valved softer for a cushier ride.
