Default Please give me info on E-brake Adjustment

Hi, I own a 1995 sc400. My car failled the inspection in NJ that my parking parking break wasn't "tight enough". I checked my rear break pads and they were totally fine, I'm guessing that I need to adjust my e-brake. If anyone has any knowledge in adjusting the E-brake on sc400 or have any other idea. Please reply, thanks . hahah

my mechanic adjusted it for me when I was replacing the rear brake pads. my ebrake is much tigher now, he was adjusting it on the driver side rear brake.

take off the rear wheels. find the large rubber plug on hub face of the brake rotor. remove plug. rotate hub until the hole lines up with the parking brake adjuster inside the rotor. you'll need a good flashlight. the adjuster is a star looking pice about the size of a quarter, but it will be sitting vertically, so you won't see anything but the edges. then use a long screw driver and rotate the adjuster. i don't remember if it's up or down, but doa few rotations and see if the rotor is easier or harder to spin. you want to adjust it until it's harder to spin, then back it off just a bit until it just gets easier. then put wheel back on, do other side.
test e brake. if it's not holding, adjust it again about 2 rotations.

LOL. The inspection thing kills me. I can't even imagine having to get a smog check much less someone checking my E-brake. I feel for you guys.

what works for me is when you drive in reverse at like 5 mph. set the ebrake a couple of times. that tends to adjust it automaticly.

or you could just take off the e-brake boot and tighten the nut down that is in between the ebrake and the center console area. takes about 5 minutes. the boot is just held on with velcro.

i just did this and it works great! my old setup has a lot of play and now it's tight and i made it so i won't have to pull it really high just about 4-5 clicks...

wow that harsh inspection. Here, my inspection on e-brake, They just put in D and pull the ebrake, lights has to be on and car stays. that all, but i guess we got emission test (smog), that is a pain and really a killer.
