Default What brake pads do you like?

Have to do brake pads for my new '00 GS400. Am considering Hawk pads. Which pads do you have and how do you like them?

Thanks!

I have Axis Ultimates, and I am not going to change to anything for a while. Search the forums, there are loads of info on all brake pads here.

I have Axxis Ultimates front and back right now. Very respectable stopping power, low noise, but a lot of dust. I'm moving up to the TT BBK in front and will use Hawk pads. (I tried to find Axxis Deluxe for the TT BBK but Rotora doesn't make them. Akebono also doesn't make a TT BBK pad.)

So wats the best aftermarket replacement break pad for the stock pad, considering the rest of your braking system is stock?

There is no such thing as best as you can never get to that conclusion. But what really does work very well, are the Axis Ultimates. Every person that I get to try these out, absolutely loves them. Try it, you will see that you need better tires right away.

It depends on your driving. Pick a pad that compliments the way you drive/brake.

If you got some bucks and extra love for your car, try Endless o/e replacement pads. Their MSRPs fall between $200 to $400.

If you want very very low dusting, try the Akebono ProACT ceramic pads. I have that on my car. The dust is actually light gray, but it doesn't actually dust a lot anyways. It takes a week for the akebono to dust up as much as my OEM pad in 1-2 days. That's amazing considering the front pads do a lot of work.

Have tried several different pads. I run X-drilled rotors and have installed stainless steel braided brake lines. I like the Axxis pads very much, but prefer the MetalMaster to the Ultimates. MetalMaster seems to have a good combination of stopping power, quiet operation and low dusting. To get your rims spotless, try P21S alloy wheel cleaner. Sprays on, rinses off. Will not damage clear coat or stain alloy wheels. Made in Germany by a company known for producing 1st class auto detailing supplies.
