I just got my stb last week and was wondering if anybody knew how many pounds of torque is recommended by lexus when i tighten up the bolts ? I am buying a torque wrench just for this purpose.

Default Ask RMM

1Nice - As the GS doesn't come with a STB from the factory, Lexus itself can't help ya. Check with RMM if it's their brace or TRD on theirs. Not 100% certain ( as my memory ain't what it used to be! ) but I applied 80 ft-lbs on mine & when I check it periodically, it's still holding at that pressure.

Default How Do They Define the Pieces?

Sasha - I'd say the RMM STB is of a 3 piece design as I count the 2 tower brace brackets individually then add in the horizontal connecting brace. Guess it depends on how they count the number of components.

Mean Gene - So it really doesn't matter as long as it is real tight? I can just tighten it up till it feel's right and check it everytime i do an oil change. Will email RMM just in case though.

Thanks

I believe the TRD one is supposed to be tightened to about 40lb/ft torque. There used to be an article on ClubLexus about installing the STB.

Stock bolts are 50nm while the TRD is 55nm in the instruction sheet, it's not really on as tight as I would have thought, but I'm sure they have their reasons. However, when the dealer worked on my car and put it back on, they had it on real tight.

I will go with what redgs said about the trd torque number.
